What OC Platinum Preferred means
Owens Corning runs three contractor tiers. Platinum Preferred sits at the top. Only about 1% of OC contractors nationally hold it — making it rarer than GAF Master Elite (which sits at about 2%).
To earn and keep Platinum Preferred status, a contractor must clear five gates each year:
- State licensing. Current and valid in California.
- Financial review. Independent verification of contractor financial stability.
- Insurance. Verified general liability and workers' compensation coverage.
- Customer reviews. Owens Corning audits real customer feedback — a falling reputation costs the badge.
- Install quality. Documented track record of code-compliant installations to OC specifications.
OC reviews these qualifications annually. Contractors who fall short lose the badge. DeHart Roofing has held Platinum Preferred through continuous training and a clean install record. We are the only Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractor in Stanislaus County.
Owens Corning warranty tiers
Platinum Preferred status unlocks warranty coverage that standard contractors cannot offer. Owens Corning has three main tiers:
- System Protection Limited Warranty. Standard contractors only. Materials coverage at the manufacturer's basic terms. Labor not backed by OC.
- Preferred Protection Limited Warranty. OC Preferred contractors only (the mid-tier program). Stronger material terms and limited labor coverage backed by OC.
- Platinum Protection Limited Warranty. OC Platinum Preferred contractors only. Coverage stacks across three layers:
- Materials. Up to 50 years of OC manufacturer coverage on the shingle system.
- Workmanship. 25 years of labor coverage backed by Owens Corning.
- No proration. Full coverage for the first 10 years — not the gradual write-down most warranties use.
Standard roofers cover shingles only. If the installation fails, you pay for labor. With Platinum Protection, OC covers labor for 25 years — backed by a Fortune 500 company, not just your contractor.

Central Valley climate benefits
The Central Valley gets summer heat over 100 degrees, strong delta breezes, and intense UV all year. The OC Duration line is engineered for it:
- SureNail Technology. A patented strip of reinforced fabric across the nailing zone. Strengthens nail pull-through — the main failure point in high-wind events. Backs the 130 mph wind warranty.
- StreakGuard algae resistance. 10-year coverage against the black streaking that shows up on north-facing slopes in irrigation-humid farm communities.
- Class A fire resistance. The highest rating available — critical during California wildfire season.
- Cool-rated SKUs. Duration Cool and Premium Cool reflect more solar energy — required for California Title 24 compliance in Climate Zone 12. Both pass code.
- Color hold. OC's color technology holds its tone better than most asphalt lines under 15-20 years of UV exposure. We see it on jobs we’ve come back to for repairs — the color matches the original year-one finish.
How OC Platinum compares to GAF Master Elite
Both are top-tier manufacturer certifications. DeHart holds both. The differences matter when picking which system goes on your roof:
- OC Platinum Preferred is rarer (~1% of OC contractors vs ~2% for GAF Master Elite).
- GAF Golden Pledge covers tear-off cost if the roof fails — OC Platinum does not include that line item.
- OC Platinum Protection includes no-proration for the first 10 years — GAF Golden Pledge is structured differently.
- Color hold: OC Duration holds color slightly better long-term; GAF Timberline has the wider color range up front.
- Algae: GAF StainGuard Plus carries 25 years of coverage; OC StreakGuard carries 10. If your roof has heavy shade, GAF has the edge here.
