To earn and maintain CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster status, a contractor must meet these requirements:
- Completion of CertainTeed's Master Shingle Applicator (MSA) certification program
- Proper state licensing and adequate insurance coverage
- A proven track record of quality installations
- Commitment to ongoing education through CertainTeed's training programs
- Good standing with local business practices and customer satisfaction

CertainTeed warranty tiers
CertainTeed offers a structured warranty system. The tier you qualify for depends on your contractor's credential level. Here are the four main warranty levels:

- SureStart warranty — Available through credentialed contractors. Covers materials for the full warranty period. SureStart provides non-prorated coverage for the first 10 years, meaning CertainTeed pays 100% of defect claims with no deductions.
- 4-Star warranty — Available through ShingleMaster contractors. Covers materials for 50 years with SureStart. Adds 15 years of workmanship coverage backed by CertainTeed.
- 5-Star SureStart Plus warranty — Available exclusively through SELECT ShingleMaster contractors. Covers materials for 50 years, extends SureStart non-prorated coverage to 25 years, adds 25 years of workmanship coverage, and includes the cost of tearing off a defective roof. This is CertainTeed's strongest warranty.
