Summer (June–September) — works but slower
Best for: emergencies and homeowners with flexible timing
Daytime highs 90–106°F. Crews start at 6 AM and break by 1 PM most days. Same-day install jobs become two-day. Asphalt shingles can scuff under foot traffic in extreme heat.
Material-wise: tile and metal handle the heat fine. Asphalt is installed but more carefully (crews avoid walking on freshly laid courses).
Booking lead time: 1–3 weeks. Generally easier to schedule than spring.
Fall (September–November) — second-best window
Best for: planned full replacements
Daytime highs 65–85°F in early fall, dropping to 60–75°F by late November. Mild winds. Rare rain before late November. Excellent material adhesion. Crews work full shifts.

Booking lead time: 2–4 weeks. October is often the busiest month for non-emergency installs.
Winter (December–February) — emergency only
Best for: emergency repairs and storm damage
Tule fog can shut down work for days. Rain weeks happen. Asphalt shingles do not bond well below 50°F (the sealant strips need warmth to activate). We schedule planned full replacements for spring instead.

Does pricing vary by season?
Material prices do not move much by season. Labor pricing is steady year-round.
What CAN affect price:
- Peak-season add-ons: some roofers add a "weather surcharge" during summer peak months. DeHart does not — our flat-rate pricing holds year-round.
- Material supply: shingle stock can run thin in late spring before HOA peak ordering. Lead time on certain colors can stretch to 2–4 weeks.
- Insurance-claim work: spikes after major wind events. Crews can get backlogged. Schedule emergency tarping immediately, then queue for full replacement.
If you have flexibility, pick fall
The best window for a planned re-roof in Stanislaus County is September through early November. You get:
- Mild weather for proper material adhesion
- Roof done before fog/storm season
- Less heat fatigue on crews (better install quality)
- Easier scheduling than spring peak
When to act regardless of season
